I made this iron Celtic cross from mild steel, showing hand-hammered textures and finishes: a radiating pattern in oil-seasoned black behind an abused, pockmarked foreground made golden with brass, applied while the steel was hot.
I pierced each limb of the cross with handmade rivets from my forge. I then applied a thin, durable hard-wax finish to make the colors enduring.
This steel cross would work well hung on a wall or resting on a fireplace hearth. It's sizeable: it weighs over three pounds, and measures a foot long by eight and a half inches wide.
It's suitable for a wedding gift, baptismal gift, or for any event where Christian faith plays a role.
