This listing is for a 4-inch twisted-handle knife like the one shown in the photo. They are handmade, so some small variation will occur between knives. The blade is 4" long, and the twisted handle is 4.5".
Knives like this go by many names: blacksmith knife, Viking knife, Celtic knife, Krumkniv and others. Since there's no wood used in its construction, a simple coat of oil makes it weatherproof, shockproof and tolerant of hard use.
Blade point styles are clip-point or "Bowie" style (in photos) or drop-point or "hunter" style.
I hand forge each blacksmith knife myself from a segment of 5/8" diameter coil spring, normalize the steel for the best grain structure possible, harden with a canola oil quench, then torch temper for excellent toughness. I also add a cutting-board-oil finish for a bit of rust protection. Food safe!
I'm thrilled to offer individually molded, friction-fit sheaths made by Amaranth Leather Works, either with a "cross-draw" double-belt-loop fixture (pictures 3 and 4), or a simpler single vertical belt loop. Available colors are dark brown (shown) and a lighter "saddle tan." Send us a message to let us know which sheath color you want!
Coil spring makes for a good, durable knife. It's not stainless, but it will hold a decent edge for most shop or camp-utility purposes. Keep it oiled, sharpen it if abuse dulls it, and it will serve you for a lifetime.
